Becoming a Better Writer
For ages 11 - 13
Writing is one of the most prestigious and difficult skills to master. Writing cohesive compositions can be hard without a solid understanding of writing mechanics. That’s where this series comes in.
This series will:
- Build up learners' theoretical and practical knowledge of the essential skills necessary to become a good writer
- Examine writing at the sentence, paragraph and essay level - explore the various genres that are expected in academic environments
- Prepare young professionals for formal communication etiquette
By the end of the series, learners will be equipped with the critical tools necessary to be efficient, competent and confident writers.

Director of Academic Programs at Johns Hopkins' Institute for Nanobiotechnology, Academic Scholar
Andre Jenkins is an academic scholar and a researcher in the field of applied linguistics. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he has been teaching as a professor of English in Saudi Arabia for over 16 years. He has published a number of articles in top-tier journals and his research interests concern race and identity. His academic journey began with Prep for Prep 9, an elite nonprofit organization dedicated to the elevation of gifted minority students in NYC. From there, he graduated from some of America’s most prestigious academic institutions (St. Andrew’s School ’99/New York University ’04) and with his education hopes to produce significant pieces of writing that help America examine issues that are sensitive yet central to his lived experiences growing up in the inner city: namely, race relations, police brutality, drugs and gang violence, incarceration and the prison system, and employment discrimination.


This Week In Nanoscience

This series will cover:
- Research motivation and impact: Why do we do what we do? Where does innovation come from?
- Getting your ideas organized: how to organize your experiments so that you can prove your hypothesis
- Making sure your results tell the story you think they do & having proper controls for your experiments
- How to write a scientific paper
By the end of the series, learners will be equipped with the critical tools necessary to be efficient, competent and confident writers.

Full Professor Of Nanotechnology At King Abdulaziz University, Harvard/MIT Affiliate, Highly Cited Researcher
Over the past 10 years, Dr. Memic has been directly involved in establishing a cutting-edge nanotechnology research center from scratch that now has over 25 million dollars of new infrastructure and has become a world recognized entity. His multidisciplinary research spans bioengineering, polymer chemistry, and nanotechnology and has produced close to 100 published or submitted works and 19 provisional/granted US patents. He joined King Abdulaziz University in 2010, recently being academically promoted to Full Professor of Nanotechnology. He previously held various positions at top-ranking institutions including a Lecturer on Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a Teaching Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an Adjunct Associate Professor at University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He is a Highly Cited Researcher given to only 0.1% percent (1 in 1000) of researchers in the world. Finally, he is consultant to Venture Capital firms providing technical and scientific advice that specializes in early-stage investments in healthcare and life science-based companies.


Intro to Design
For ages 11 - 13
If you’re interested in learning about graphic design, then this course is for you. This course consists of two parts: the fundamentals of design and how to use Canva. Learners will first learn the basics of design and then will learn how to navigate Canva’s features to use it to its full potential.
This series will cover:
- Layout, Composition & Hierarchy
- Color Theory
- Typography
- Design Mistakes to Avoid
- How To Navigate Canva
- Canva’s Various Features & How To Add Elements, Images, Backgrounds and More
- File Types and Exporting
By the end of the series, learners will be able to determine what goes into good design work and will know create such work using Canva .
